Obituary of James A. Albano, Sr.

James A. Albano Sr., 72, passed away on November 22, 2018.

James was a native Staten Islander who resided in Castleton Corners his entire life.  He attended P.S. 29 and Port Richmond High School before enlisting in the United States Navy following his graduation.  James was a patriot who loved his country dearly.  He served our nation proudly during the Vietnam War on the USS Shangri-La in Mayport, Florida, before his Honorable Discharge. James also served in the Naval Reserve Seabees and Army National Guard.

James returned to Staten Island to become a devoted father who raised three children: James Jr., Patricia, and Amanda.  James was employed as a supervisor for the New York City Department of Sanitation until his retirement in 1990.  He also worked for the United States Post office on Manor Road as a handyman. 

James was a parishioner at St. Theresa Parish and loved spending time with his five grandchildren: Emily, Jamie, Madelyn, Ryan and Johnathan. He also cherished spending time with his sisters, Teresa and Diane, daughter-in-law Claudine, sons-in-law Danny and Robert, and many cousins.  James enjoyed summer camping in Myrtle Beach with his children and grandchildren.  He was an avid New York Yankee fan and liked spending time with his mini Schnauzer Molly and Cocker Spaniel Betty Lou.  He was a Ford Mustang enthusiast. 
 

James cherished his parents Anthony and Carmela Albano who resided across the street from him for most of his adult life. James will be remembered as a family man who brought joy, laughter, and love to all around him.

Family and friends are invited to visit the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 3:00-5:00  and 7:00-9:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 1634 Victory Boulevard on Thursday at 10:45 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
