Oscar Alfaro, age 75, passed away on December 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Genoveva Alfaro for almost 50 years; extraordinary and loving father of Ivan Alfaro, Karla Tramposch, and Sandra Alfaro-Rodriguez; devoted "Papa" of Gabrielle Alfaro, Cristian Alfaro, Harrison Tramposch, Isabella Tramposch, Julianna Tramposch, and Sebastian Rodriguez; and the adored Father-in-Law of NancyLee Alfaro, Robert Tramposch and Justino Rodriguez. He was also a favorite Uncle to many many nieces and nephews and a special Godfather/"Padrino" to a lucky few. Mr. Alfaro was born in Lima, Peru on March 19, 1943. He was the oldest male and the second eldest in a family of eight children. He immigrated to the United States in 1969 and settled first in Brooklyn, NY with his young family in pursuit of the American Dream. In 1977, the family moved to Staten Island, where he lived until the time of his death. Oscar was loved by all who knew him, for many years as the friendly owner of the famously delicious neighborhood deli called "Oscar's Corner" on South Avenue. After closing his store in the early 90's, Oscar went on to have a 2nd career as an insurance sales representative for MetLife. Anyone who knew Oscar would tell you he had a smile that lit up the room and that he gave the best hugs! He was a great cook, known for his famous dishes including lomo saltado, sopa minuta and taillarines rojos, yum. He was an avid sports fan and loved his NY Mets, JETS and Rangers. Oscar loved to travel, dance and would often be heard asking "is everybody happy??" to which we always answered "YES!" Oscar lived his life devoted to his family and was the trusted advisor and voice of reason for so many.
