Obituary of Fred Monforte

Fred Monforte, age 88, of Bulls Head, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on December 28, at Clove Lakes Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Teresa (nee Mazzella) for 67 years; loving father of Janet Coppolino and her husband Peter, and Donna Mattera and her Fiance Tommy Bacigalupo; cherished grandfather of Peter Coppolino and his wife Iwona, KimMarie Gucciardo and her husband James, and the late Dana Marie Mattera; fond great-grandfather of Peter, Sophia, Nicholas and Joseph. Mr. Monforte was born and raised in Brooklyn. In his younger years he was a professional lightweight Boxer, known as the "Brooklyn Express." He then went on to work until his retirement as a Long Shoreman. His two main passions in life were fishing and going to Coney Island to enjoy the beach, where he was known for his famous beach chair and American Flag. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Children's Miracle Network. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Monday, departing at 9 am. Mass of Chrisitan Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 9:30 am. Private cremation will follow. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
