Obituary of Anthony J. Barletto

Family chef, retired letter carrier and lifelong Staten Islander Anthony J. Barletto, 74, of Concord, died Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Born and raised in Port Richmond, he attended St. Mary's R.C. Church – where his parents, the late Angelina and Saverio Barletto, were active. He graduated from Port Richmond High School. For 35 years, Anthony was a letter carrier at the Murray Hill Station of the United States Postal Service in Manhattan. While working, he met and married the former Barbara Liebel in 1978. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past October with a ceremony and party hosted by their family in New Jersey. After retiring in 2000, his focus became his children and grandchildren. He especially loved being involved with his four grandchildren and watching them in their various activities – Nathan in baseball and home improvement; Aaron in baseball and football; Abbie in dance and horseback riding, and Zoë in theater and singing. Known for carrying on the family tradition of antipasto and making the best sauce and meatballs, he was the chef for his family. Anthony's other hobbies included being a Jets fan, indulging his love for Las Vegas with occasional trips to Atlantic City and enjoying his retirement with his wife. Anyone who knew him loved him and Anthony was forever making new friends wherever he went. He could frequently be seen walking around his neighborhood and checking on all his neighbors. In addition to his wife of 40 years and his four grandchildren, surviving are his two daughters and their husbands, Carla and Frank Fellmann, Danielle and Ted Ulmer; his brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Marilyn Barletto; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as all those whom he called family. Funeral from Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, January 4, 2019 departing at 9:15 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sylvester's RC Church at 10:00 AM. Private Committal to follow. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
