Obituary of Gary E. Hersch

Gary E. Hersch, age 71, passed away on January 1, 2019. He was the devoted son of the late Alfred Palumbo and Flora Palumbo. He was the beloved brother of Douglas Hersch and Donna Forgen and the late Alan and Steven Palumbo and Susan Hines. He was the loving uncle of Allison Angioletti and her husband Anthony. He was the dear great uncle of Julianna Rose, Anthony III and Stephen Angioletti. Gary was a very athletic young man who enjoyed softball, stickball and baseball. He was a patriot who served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. After returning home he pursued a career as a sanitation worker. After retiring as a sanitation worker he spent the majority of his time golfing with his friends from the South Shore Country Club. Gary will be remembered as a generous, kind hearted man who loved his family deeply. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. On Monday, 1/7/19, departing at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's R.C. Church (Rosebank) at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Calverton National Cemetery. Family and friends may visit Saturday, 1/5/19, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Sunday, 1/6/19, from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 PM.
