Obituary of John J. Plescia

John J. Plescia, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucy for over 43 years. He was the loving father of Sandra Schiavone and her husband Nicholas. He was the cherished grandfather of John. He was the devoted son of the late Rocco and Josephine Plescia. He was the dear brother of Joseph Plescia and Louise Marcinak. He was the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. John was born and raised in Staten Island. He graduated from McKee High School. Soon after, he joined the MTA Transit Authority. In 1956, he married the love of his life Lucy. John served in the Army during the Korean War from 1957 to 1959. He was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After being honorably discharged he returned to the MTA where he worked for 34 years. John retired in 1986 to spend more time with his family. In his spare time he bowled with his father and was a passionate model railroader, known by those closest to him as the train doctor. John will be remembered as a strong, devoted, generous man who touched the lives of many throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., On Monday, 1/14/19, departing at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, 1/12/19 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Sunday, 1/13/19, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM.
