Marie Eugenie Lafontant Marie Eugenie Lafontant, age 90, passed away on Sunday February 24th at 11:45 am in the loving arms of her daughters, Carole, Kathia, Marie-Jose, and Charlotte. Eugenie, was born in Bainet, Haiti on August 16th, 1928. She and her twin sister Eline Leroy were the last of 12 children from Hyppyias Alexandre and Gervelie Greffin. She was an entrepreneur seamstress in Haiti. She generated income by designing and sewing dresses for people in her community. Her real life passion was the nurturing and caring of children whenever it was necessary. She did this most honorable work with humility and grace until she met and married Louis Lauren Lafontant in December 28, 1961 and had 9 children of her own. She was predeceased in death by her husband Louis Etienne Laurin Lafontant and 10 of her older siblings. She leaves behind her twin sister Eline Leroy and her 9 children Carole, Kathia, Marie-Jose, Lesly, Francois, Charlotte, Serge, Sylvie, and Edelyne. She also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many other people she has had tremendous impact on. As the matriarch of the family, she made sure to impress upon us the value of supporting and loving each other through life. She left an impression on everyone who came across her path as a powerhouse of love and acceptance. She made everyone feel important and welcomed in her presence. She was also a very religious person who believed in the power of prayer. She always made sure that the family remembered to hold onto their faith in God. Marie Eugenie will be remembered through generations as a superhero with the gift of unconditional love that nurtures and transforms all. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by all of her loved ones.
