Obituary of Theresa Mezzacappa

Theresa Mezzacappa (nee Padula), 90, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Mario (1997), loving mother of Dolores Violett and her husband, William, and the late Peggy Ann Fletcher; cherished grandmother of Theresa Banbor and her husband, Mark, Arthur Violett and his wife, Melissa, Angela Stanton and her husband, Ian, Jessica Wilkinson and her husband, Scott, and the late Melissa Fletcher; devoted great-grandmother of Adam, Amelia, Ava, Lina, Elizabeth, and Tanner. Theresa was predeceased by her six sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Mezzacappa was born on Staten Island and raised in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania. She returned to Staten Island after marrying her husband, settling in Sunnyside. She worked briefly as a seamstress in her younger years and later stayed home to raise her family. Some of her hobbies included cooking, baking, crocheting, and gardening. Theresa specialized in homemade meatballs, pierogies, pizza and cookies. In her garden she grew fresh tomatoes and herbs, which she used in her recipes. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, departing at 8:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa's R.C. Church at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to visit on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
