Obituary of Nicholas "Buddy" J. Fontana

Nicholas "Buddy" Fontana, 83, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2019, at Staten Island University Hospital, North. He was the beloved husband of the late Eva (2003); loving father of Nicholas Fontana, Jr., Donald Fontana and his wife, Rosa, and Joseph and his wife, Cora; cherished grandfather of Cindy Ann Gitter and her husband, Steven, Anthony Fontana, Angelica Fontana, and GraceAnn Fontana; devoted great-grandfather of Gabriel and Michael Gitter; dear brother of Josephine Aceste, Ellen Pederson and her husband, Jim, Florence Sakalas and her husband, Thomas, the late William Fontana, late Charles Fontana, and the late Donald Fontana; fond brother-in-law of Carol Fontana. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Fontana was born in Brooklyn in 1935, raised in Park Slope, and graduated from William Grady Technical High School. He was employed for over thirty years for the City of New York as a Housing Foreman. Nicholas enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, crabbing, swimming, stickball/softball. He also enjoyed going to the track, trips to Atlantic City & Wildwood, and scratchoff lottery tickets. Funeral from the Matthew funeral home, 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, departing at 11 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church, at 11:30 am. Private cremation will follow. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
