Obituary of Paul C. Rydell

Paul C. Rydell, age 48, of Castleton Corners, passed away suddenly on March 16, 2019. He was the beloved son of Elizabeth (Betsy) and the late Allan Rydell; loving father of Paul A. Rydell; dear brother of Penny McNerney and her husband, Kevin, Eugene Rydell and his wife, Dorothy, and Matthew Rydell; dear uncle of three nieces and two nephews. Mr. Rydell was born and raised on Staten Island and graduated from Susan Wagner High School. He furthered his education by attending the College of Staten Island, and was employed for 17 years, by local Union 638, as a Steamfitter. Paul enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. The Beatles were his one of his favorite artists. He rooted for the NY Giants and Yankees. Paul enjoyed spending time with his son, teaching him music and travelling with him. He is described by his family as the "Most gentle, kind-hearted, thoughtful man, who would help anybody." Though he battled addiction and inner demons, he fought valiantly, through rehabilitation and twelve step based meetings. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to the RUMC Silberstein Clinic, 1130 South Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314. Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, 3/21, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc. A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 7:30 pm, at the funeral home.
