Obituary of Joseph H. Parise

Joseph H. Parise, 92, of Willowbrook, passed away at home on March 18, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann for 45 years; fond ex-husband of Genevieve for 18 years; loving father of Joseph Parise (Christine), Robert Parise (Patricia), Anne Marie DeFrietas, Angela Parise (Steven Arthur), Michael Parise (Karen), and Joan McDonald; cherished grandfather of sixteen and devoted great-grandfather of ten; dear brother of Victoria Goldfarb (Bob) and Portia Gilman (late Wayne), the late Mary Crogan and the late Amelia Vanderbeck. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Joseph had a very special relationship with with Marilou and Peter Saladis, with whom he shared many joyous holidays and family parties. Mr. Parise was born and raised on Staten Island, graduated from Port Richmond High School, and attended classes at Wagner College. Joseph was active with the Navy for a few years and also served with the reserves. For almost 40 years, he worked for New York City, serving first as a Bus Operator, then with the NYPD, before settling in with the FDNY. He worked as the Commanding Officer of Engine 157 in Port Richmond, retiring as a Captain in 1987. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and painting. Joseph was very outgoing, who loved to make people laugh and get a reaction from them. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Joseph's name be made to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. (tunnel2towers.org) Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, departing at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Roch's R.C. Church, at 10 am. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
