Obituary of Carmine J. Cluna

Carmine J. Cluna, 92, of Bulls Head, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Constance (nee Servedio), for 69 years; loving father of Jennie Lauricella and her husband, Mike Handerhan, and Florence Safoschnik and her late husband, Kevin; cherished grandfather of Lorraine Scala and her husband, Don, Dana Della Porta and her husband, Jimi, Michael Safoschnik and his wife, Julia, and Jason Safoschnik and his wife, Jessica; devoted great-grandfather of Jessica and Tyler. He was predeceased by 14 siblings. Mr. Cluna was born in Brooklyn and raised in Greenpoint. He relocated to Staten Island 44 years ago. Carmine was drafted and served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Germany. He was employed for 33 years with the New York City Transit Authority, as a Flagman. He also worked as a maintenance man for the Hip Center after he retired from New York City. Some of his hobbies included bowling, ping pong, cards, and taking care of his pool. Carmine enjoyed eating his wife's delicious cooking and looked forward to dinner from 9 am everyday. He also enjoyed baking, especially around the holidays. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral service at the funeral home, on Tuesday, at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, NJ.
