Obituary of Carmine P. LaMarca

Carmine Patrick LaMarca, deeply loved husband and father, passed away Tuesday, June 25th 2019 at John F. Kennedy Medical Center (Edison, NJ) at the age of 65. Born in Staten Island to Carmelo and Agnes (Orlando) LaMarca, Carmine had a curious mind and a profound love of learning. He cherished the long talks he would have with his father (a WWII veteran and mechanic), about cars and history and he was an avid reader; his brother Andrew fondly remembered that "he never met a book that he didn't like." Carmine surrounded himself with books working for the New York Public Library during high school and college, where he met his future wife, Marilyn. He received a bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Wagner College and later completed two master's degrees, in Management (Stevens Institute of Technology) and History (Monmouth University). Carmine worked as a regional manager at AT&T for 25 years and after retiring, continued to teach history and business courses as an adjunct professor. Carmine had many talents; he wrote beautiful calligraphy, composed inspiring essays, and played the guitar. He had a sharp sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. He was generous and affectionate, and always made sure his loved ones were cared for and knew their value to him. Above all, Carmine was a profoundly compassionate and nurturing man, who counseled his family and friends with love and patience. Carmine was passionate about mentoring and teaching students and disenfranchised people. He also loved animals and wildlife and contributed to many causes and charities to benefit conservation efforts. Carmine is survived by his wife Marilyn (Tierney), children Patrick and Elizabeth, and brother Andrew. We will miss him deeply and remember him with love. Services will be held at Matthew Funeral Home (2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314) on Sunday, June 30th, 2019 from 2 PM – 6 PM. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 11 AM starting at Matthew Funeral Home, followed by an Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery (361 Sharrott Ave, Staten Island, NY 10309). In lieu of flowers, Carmine's family suggests sending memorial contributions to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue (https://www.nyanimalrescue.org).
