Obituary of Matthew L. Sollena

Matthew L. Sollena, 59, of New Springville, passed away at home on July 19, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Denise (nee Veneziano) for 36 years; loving father of Matthew Sollena, Jr., Christopher Sollena, Alexandra Sollena and her husband, Jonathan Scheer, Ariel Sollena, and the late Michael Sollena; cherished grandfather of Christopher Jr., Mia, and Michael Sollena; dear brother-in-law of Doreen Pratts and her husband, Jayson, Ruth and James Malpeso, and Eva Marie Kelly and her husband, Joseph; fond son-in-law of Ruth Schlieper and Ernest Veneziano; devoted uncle of John, Jessica, Sia, Anthony, Victoria, C.J., Cassandra, Nicholas, and Joseph. Matty was born in Brooklyn and raised in Bensonhurst. He worked for 33 years as a Teamster as a Truck Driver. Matty was a Steelers, Mets and Rangers fan, who also enjoyed boxing. Most of all he was a family man who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, departing at TBA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita's R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
