Obituary of Joan A. Genovese

Mrs. Joan A. Genovese (nee Schepis), age 79, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Gabe Genovese for 56 years; loving mother of Cathy Appello and her husand, Bobby, Debbie Genovese and her partner, Nanci Elias, and Tina Genovese and her wife, Wendy Ortiz; cherished grandmother of Joseph and Dana Appello; dear sister of the late Diana Mogan; fond sister-in-law of Winifred Genovese; devoted aunt of Kerry, Laura, John, Wendy, Jeanie and the late Vincent. Joan was born in Troy, NY and moved around a lot as a child. She lived for many years in Brooklyn, graduating from Bay Ridge High School. Her career took her to various stops such as Dime Bank in Brooklyn, Northfield Bank on Staten Island, and finished her career as a medical biller with Staten Island University Hospital. Joan, along with her husband, owned her own video center in the former Four Bridges Flea Market on Staten Island. Some of her hobbies included doing puzzles, reading, crafting, knitting and crocheting, ice skating, and travelling. Funeral Service at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, at 10 am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
