Obituary of John A. Banks

John A. Banks, age 71, passed away on October 4, 2019. He was the devoted son of the late Donald and Louise Banks. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (nee Compitello). He was the loving father of Kristofer Banks and his wife Clarissa, Keith Banks, Samantha Notaro and her husband Thomas and Alexandra Silva and her husband Joseph. He was the dear "Pop-Pop" of Katherine Banks and Avery Notaro. He was the cherished brother of D.J. Banks and Thomas Banks. He is also survived by his loving nephew, Thomas Banks Jr. John was a life-long Staten Islander, who graduated from Msgr. Farrell High School. He went on to attend New England Aeronautical Institute but left prior to graduating to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He served in the Army from 1969 to 1971 and received his honorable discharge for the tremendous sacrifice he made to his country. After returning home he worked as an operating engineer for local 14. In 1986, he married his wonderful wife who encouraged John and his brothers to start their own business, Bedford Construction Corporation which they did with the family's support. Family was never far from John's heart always stressing the importance of family. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and of course, Sunday dinners. John recently became a Pop-Pop for the first time and he considered it one of the happiest and proudest moments of his life. John will be remembered for his terrific sense of humor, his amazing patience and understanding and the love for his family. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. On Wednesday, 10/9/19, departing at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick's R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, 10/8/19, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
