Obituary of John J. Plescia
John J. Plescia, Sr., age 89, of West Brighton, passed away suddenly on September 30, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances for 70 years. She predeceased him in May. John was the loving father of Lorraine Caruso and her husband, Frank, Maureen Skoblar and her husband, Leonard, and John J. Plescia, Jr., and his wife Suzanne; cherished grandfather of Frank Caruso Jr. and his Fiance Heather Kladzan, Deborah Caruso and her husband, Christopher, Brian Skoblar and his wife, Kellyann, Daniel Skoblar and his fiancé, Venetia Brewer, and the late Michael Skoblar; fond great-grandfather of Adrianne and Haley Caruso, and Bennett Skoblar; dear brother of Diane Zila and her husband, John, Joseph Plescia, and his wife, Debbie.
A lifelong Staten Islander, John was born on December 29, 1927. He attended McKee High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was stationed overseas in places such as Guam, Saipan, and Hawaii. John was on the Navy ship ARD-15. He was employed for 40 years at Con Edison as an Emergency Supervisor, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the VFW Post 248, and American Legion C. Granito Smith Post 1296. He was very active in their functions. He would always attend member funeral services and play the bugle there. In his spare time he enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, shopping and hunting. He was very handy and could fix anything, and is described as the most kind, giving man who would do anything to help his family and friends.
