Obituary of Frederick J. Palumbo

Frederick J. Palumbo, 91, of Dongan Hills, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Benedicta Palumbo (nee Socci) for 64 years; loving father of Annette Villa and her husband, Dr. Gerard Villa, and Lillian Palumbo; cherished grandfather of Michael, Andrew and Matthew Villa; dear brother of Joseph Palumbo and his late wife, Marie, the late Thomas Palumbo and the late Yolanda Cipolla. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Palumbo was born on Staten Island in 1928, raised primarily in West Brighton, and was graduated from McKee High School. After high school he was drafted and served proudly as Staff Sergeant in the U.S.Army, being stationed in Germany. When he returned home he met his future wife, Benedicta and they wed in 1955. For many years he was employed as a Borough Foreman for the New York City Department of Transportation, retiring in 1992. Frederick was an avid bocce player, who played in various tournaments, and also enjoyed bowling, and participated in karate, specializing in Jiu-Jitsu as a brown belt. In addition he was a NY Giants (football) and Yankees fan, and occasionally enjoyed going to the track for horse racing. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday, 10/16, departing at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita's R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. Entombment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, 10/15, from 2:00 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
