Obituary of Ingrid H. Van Wygerden

Ingrid H. Van Wygerden (nee Schonfeldt), age 79, passed away on October 15, 2019. She was the devoted daughter of the late Karl and Hildegaard Schonfledt. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Van Wygerden. She was the loving mother of Peter R. Van Wygerden. She was the cherished grandmother of Amilee Lezgus and her husband Sean, Karl Van Wygerden and his girlfriend Taylor Palmieri and Justin Van Wygerden. She was the dear great grandmother of Peter Joseph Van Wygerden. She was the fond sister of Wolfgang Schonfeldt, Irene Clarson and her husband Bob, Michael Fox, and Tessie Kortman. She is also survived by her loving nieces, Charlotte Robson and her husband Joseph, Penny Den Hertog and her husband Kevin and her nephew, Robert Clarson.

Ingrid was born and raised in Berlin, Germany and later moved to New Orleans where she lived for a short period of time. She later travelled back to Germany on a ship where she met her future husband, Peter. Soon after they were married in Holland and began a family with the birth of their beloved son, Peter R. Van Wygerden. Ingrid and her husband then moved to the U.S., specifically Staten Island, NY in search of a new chapter of adventure and opportunity.

Ingrid began working as a florist locally, first at Wiesner Brothers Nursery Inc. and then at Clark's House of Flowers. Ingrid was so proud to be a mother to her son who was the apple of her eye. She also adored all animals, especially her dachshunds, Penny, Fritzie as well as Mikey. In her spare time, Ingrid had a true passion for reading novels; her creative and imaginative mind would allow her to immerse herself into the story. Ingrid had many important friends throughout her life, namely, Mary Ann, Denise, Bridey, Analece and Josephine who always spent time together and shared many wonderful moments and memories. She considered family to be extremely important and valued the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

Even though she had family in many different locations, she always kept them close to her heart. She had a unique and special connection with her sister, Irene and niece, Charlotte. They enjoyed each other's company and shared many meaningful conversations about life. Ingrid will be remembered as a loving and caring woman in her neighborhood. She was a very social person who had a positive outlook on life. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
