Amelia Patricia "Pat" Collo
September 3, 1920 – November 12, 2019
Amelia Patricia "Pat" Collo passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 12, 2019 at Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Meyersdale, PA on September 3, 1920 to Sam and Angeline Angelo, Pat was the oldest of six children. She was predeceased by all five siblings; Virginia Kovalik, Jeanette Montgomery, Sam Angelo, Gene Angelo and Jim Angelo.
After graduating from Meyersdale High School, Pat spent the next three years singing Country and Western music on the Somerset, PA radio station showcasing her beautiful voice and excellent yodeling skills. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she was employed as a secretary for White Tower Restaurants.
Pat met her first husband, Thomas E. Harkins, in Baltimore, MD in 1941. They married in 1942 and had five children: Thomas, Stephen, Angeline, Margaret and Sharon. In 1950 the family moved to Staten Island, NY. Pat commuted to Manhattan to begin her career at American Express in the International Banking Division as a Supervisor in the Communications Department for more than 30 years.
Pat was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas E. Harkins. She met her second husband, Frank P. Collo, while taking dance lessons at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Pat and Frank were married in 1968, starting a combined family. They took joy in traveling, dancing, golfing, bingo and babysitting grandchildren. Pat was an avid walker, loved horses, enjoyed yoga, aerobics and other physical fitness activities. Her discipline and passion for living a healthy lifestyle was admirable. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2018, son Stephen in 1948, daughters Angeline and Margaret in 1952 and daughter Sharon R. Birmingham (Richard) in 1989. Pat is survived by her son Thomas N. Harkins (Mary Ann), and her stepson Frank R. Collo, six grandchildren; Theresa Eshenower (David), Deborah Ludwig (Scott), Richard F. Birmingham, Jr., Lauren Birmingham, Marissa Birmingham (Ishmael Rivera) and Frank Collo, Jr. (Latasha) as well as 15 great grandchildren.
In 2007 Pat and Frank were honored by Deborah Heart and Lung Association for more than 20 years of Volunteer Service to the organization.
A memorial mass will be held at the Church of the Holy Family on Watchogue Rd, Staten Island, NY at 1:00 pm on Friday November 22, 2019. Interment of the cremated remains will be private.
