Obituary of Anne M. Merlino

Anne M. Merlino (nee Eccleston), age 70, of Sunnyside, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2019. She was the beloved wife of John Merlino for 51 years; loving mother of Gina Nicolaou and her husband, John; cherished grandmother of John Merlino III, Gabrielle Merlino, Robert Merlino, and JohnPaul and Rocco Nicolaou; fond sister-in-law of Phyllis Merlino. Anne was predeceased by her two sisters. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Merlino was born and raised in Rosebank and was graduated from New Dorp High School, class of 1967. For over 35 years she managed the Merlino Insurance Agency, owned by her husband John. Anne was an excellent cook, specializing in macaroni and meatballs, mac and cheese and Christmas cookies. She made the best lasagna in the world! Anne also enjoyed riding in her corvette, listening to Johnny Mathis and traveling to her second home in Livingston Manor, NY. Most importantly she loved her time spent with her family, especially her husband, daughter and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Anne's memory be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (themmrf.org). Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 10:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church at 11 am. Interment to follow in Oceanview Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
