Obituary of Louis J. De Pierro

Louis De Pierro, 88, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2019 at Staten Island University Hospital, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Florence De Pierro for 65 years; loving father of Melody De Pierro and Nicholas De Pierro; and cherished grandfather of Morgan De Pierro. Raised and born in Brooklyn, New York, Louis attended Automotive High School and was then drafted into the U.S. Army at 17 years old, serving for 3 years. He fought in the Korean War and eventually came home to marry his wife on August 14, 1954 at the age of 21. They had two children and Louis worked for the NY Sanitation Department. With a love for the restaurant business, Louis opened his own restaurant in Manhattan, known as Taormina on Mulberry Street. This accomplishment was his pride and joy and his selfless soul will be forever remembered for his dedication to the business. Louis will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He always put everyone else before himself, even during his final hours with us. He fought hard and was a strong, loving, caring, and generous man. We will hold you in our hearts until we can hold you in our arms in heaven. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
