Obituary of Aloysius P. Moona

Aloysius P. Moona better known to friends and family as "Al," "Moona" and "Ti Mang" was born in Castries, St. Lucia, West Indies on July 11, 1940 to the late Jean and Elizabeth Moona. He was the 8th of 10 children: Zinita, Joan, Josie, Maureen and preceded in death by Bernadette, Celine, Daphne, Carlos and Alan. He attended Saint Mary's College. He came to the United States in 1967 and resided in Brooklyn, New York where he later married his wife, Rosemary (James) that same year. Rosemary and Al were united in marriage for 52 years. Al and Rosemary moved to Staten Island, New York in 1971. He worked as a lab tech in microbiology at the former ER Squibb and Sons in Brooklyn, New York. He continued working with the company when they relocated to New Brunswick, New Jersey and through the merger with Bristol Myers, now known as Bristol Myers Squibb. Al retired with the company in 1999. Al enjoyed country music, gardening, photography, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Al will be remembered as a kind, generous, family oriented man who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Al passed away on December 9, 2019 at the age of 79. Al was the loving father of Sherrie (and her husband, Carl), Anthony and Sylvester (and his wife, Antoinette), devoted Papa of Kayla and Isaiah, loving brother-in law of Leroy, Spencer, Humphrey, Francois, John, Francis, Keith, Cheryl, Sonia, Cassilda, Marjorie, Vern and Lyndel. Al was preceded in death by his mother and father- in-law, Percita and Thomas James. Al was also preceded in death by his brother- in- laws: Franklin, Clive, Simon and sister-in-law: Josephine. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Al's memory. Family and friends may visit on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Matthew Funeral Home 2508 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, New York. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 21, 2019 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church 211 Harbor Road Staten Island, New York at 10:15 AM. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, 52 Tyler Avenue Staten Island, New York.
