Obituary of Kochumman Geevarghese

Kochumman Geevarghese, 76, Manor Heights, passed away on January 9, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Mariamma Geevarghese for 49 years; loving father of Eldo Varghese and his wife Pauline, Susan Moriello and her husband Michael, and Christopher Geevarghese and his wife Judy; cherished grandfather to Claire, Tara, Arianna, Isabella, and Piera; dear brother of Mariamma Francis, Kochukoshy Kochummen, Saramma Koshy, and Kochummen Kochummen. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Geevarghese was born in Kundara Valiyakampiyil, India in 1943, after having served in the Indian Air Force for 12 years; he came to the United States in 1973 and settled in West Brighton. For thirty years he was employed by the NYC MTA. His church family was his backbone and heart. Kochumman was a founding member of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church and a pillar of the church community. Kochumman was a die-hard Yankees fan, enjoyed cricket and watching Jeopardy as well as keeping abreast of current events. Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church, 175 Brielle Avenue, at 9am. Interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Saturday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm and Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.
