Obituary of James W. Lane Sr.

James "Jimmy" Lane Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 28, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Louise Lane (nee Mannino). He was the loving father of James Lane Jr. and his wife Patricia and Stephanie Howell and her husband Jeffrey. He was the cherished grandfather of Jeffrey Howell Jr., Chelsea Lane, Rachel Howell, A.J. Lane, Briania Howell and the late James Lane III. He was the dear brother of Doris, Robert, Sissy and the late Ray, Keith and Linda. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jimmy was born and raised on Staten Island. Growing up he enjoyed playing football and watching other sports. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Rangers. After graduating high school, Jimmy joined the Army serving his country honorably. Upon his return, Jimmy began a career as a sanitation worker and retired after 20 years. He also worked construction while working for sanitation always doing whatever jobs he could to provide for his family. Jimmy was very handy around the house taking care of any maintenance problems that occurred. In his spare time he loved to travel all over the U.S., specifically, Hawaii, Maine and Florida. He very much enjoyed cruises with his wife and their friends. As Jimmy got older his focus turned towards his grandchildren. He spent much of his time taking them to the park, zoo, boardwalk and many other places. Jimmy and Louise always welcomed company and even hosted many holiday gatherings. Those closest to Jimmy knew he was funny, loving and always made people comfortable around him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, 3/3/2020, a funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. A private cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit on Monday, 3/2/2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
