Obituary of Guenter G. Broecker

Guenter Broecker, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Edith Broecker (nee Danielson). He was the loving father of Stephen Broecker and his wife Maria, Thomas Broecker and Karen Nelson and her husband John. He was the cherished grandfather (Opa) of Nicole and Kristen Broecker and Katharina, Karl, Anna, Tory and Evan Nelson and the late Steven Broecker. Guenter was born and raised in Stade-Scholisch, Germany. In 1951, he came to the U.S. for work and to pursue a better life. Guenter was married to his devoted late wife Edith in 1958. He had an impressive career working as an engineer for AT & T for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of Salem Church where he dedicated a lot of his time. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, working outside, planting flowers and vegetables. Guenter was an avid newspaper reader. He loved to travel to Europe, especially visiting family in his hometown in Germany. Family was extremely important to him. As he got older, Guenter focused more on his grandchildren. He loved traveling with his grandchildren to Camp Spofford in New Hampshire. He fully supported his grandchildren in everything they did. He made every effort to see them participate in their sporting events and extracurricular activities. Guenter was very proud of his upbringing always sharing stories with his grandchildren. Guenter will be remembered as a kind, generous and warm hearted man who made those around him feel very comfortable. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of Flowers, donations in Guenter’s memory may be made to the Salem Church, 634 Clove Road, Staten Island, NY 10310. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, 3/6/2020, a funeral service will be held in Salem Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 3/5/2020, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
