Obituary of James E. Frazier
James Frazier, age 90, passed away on May 25, 2020 at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born October 14, 1929, James was raised in Manhattan by his parents Oscar and Viola (nee Haskins). He leaves behind his wife Lula, son Gerald, daughter-in-law Lorraine, daughters Celeste and Leslie Frazier-Lacey, and son-in-law Chris, grandchildren Jordan and Justin. He also leaves behind nieces Barbara and Carol and nephew Glenn.
Mr. Frazier obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the N.Y. Institute of Technology in 1977. He started his career at the U.S. Post Office and later became a Police Officer in 1955. He earned a promotion to Sergeant in 1971 and retired in 1977. After a short stint as Director of Security at Concourse Village Inc., in the Bronx, he attained the position of Director of Security for the Borough of Manhattan Community College, which he held for 14 years, retiring in 1992. In addition, James was a proud Veteran, serving three years in the Army, from 1946 to 1949.
James was a member of the Staten Island Branch of the NAACP, as well as a member of the Guardians. He spent his retirement years traveling to Africa, Brazil, Peru, and numerous other foreign countries.
Mr. Frazier was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Oscar and his wife Gladys, sisters Eleanor, and Nancy, as well as his son David.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, a private viewing will be held at the funeral home, followed by a private cremation. A memorial will be organized at a future date.
