Obituary of John E. Bottone

John "Jack" Bottone, age 95, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2020. He was the devoted son of the late John and Adele Bottone. He was the beloved husband of the late Anita Bottone (nee Brosky) for over 50 years. He was the loving father of John Shawn Bottone and his wife Linda, Lynne Garguilo and her husband Lou and the late Edward Bottone and his widow Barbara. He was the dear grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather of 29. He was the cherished brother of Elinor Carlin, and the late Ralph Fernandez, Michael Fernandez, Marie Schneider and Gladys Powell. He leaves behind a long time companion Blenda Conn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. John was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. He attended New Dorp High School and went on to work at Carparts Inc which he later owned and operated. John enlisted in the Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Chilton. He was a proud patriot who served his country honorably. John and his beautiful wife Anita were married in 1943 settling in Concord, later moving to Westerleigh. They were blessed with three beautiful children. Throughout his life John had many hobbies and interests which included fishing, photography, computers, building and traveling. He was one of the founders of the Stapleton A.C. baseball team. He also managed the team. John had a great sense of humor which made him a pleasure to be around. He never relied on others to do things for him. He was a very independent and self reliant person. John was fortunate to see many of his grandchildren and great children grow up. He loved spending time with them and showed a great deal of interest in their lives. In the end John was a great man, patriot and role model who touched the lives of many. He will be dearly missed. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Friday, 8/28/2020, funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. A private cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 8/27/2020, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Due to the pandemic, all visitors must wear masks, and the number of visitors allowed into the funeral home will be limited by capacity.
