Obituary of Elizabeth E. Cleary

Elizabeth E. Cleary, 92, of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021, at the Brandywine Assisted Living in Princeton, NJ. She was the beloved wife of the late John Cleary (2008); loving mother of Michael Cleary, John Cleary Jr., Peggy Swinton, Nancy Cleary-Fiore, Patricia Altschuler, the late Elizabeth Smit, and the late Veronica Cleary; cherished grandmother of 17 and devoted great-grandmother of 33. She was predeceased by her seven siblings. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was born and raised in Port Richmond, Staten Island. She attended and graduated from Port Richmond High School. Mrs. Cleary was a very devout Catholic as she attended mass daily. Elizabeth was a member of the Ocean Waves and the Staten Squares, and was an avid bowler. Elizabeth enjoyed family camping trips throughout the years. Her family meant the world to her as she was very close to her children and grandchildren. She was the rock of her family. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Wednesday, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to visit on Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
