Obituary of Andrew Zangrillo

Andrew Zangrillo passed away on August 10, 2022, at the age of 74, after a courageous battle with cancer. Andrew is survived by his wife Athicha and former wife Melinda; loving father of Christian, Dana and Jon; cherished grandfather of Victoria, Nicholas, Brian, Jacob, Christian, and Rylie; dear brother of Patricia, Joanne, and Michael. Andrew was born to Gasper and Albertha Zangrillo on September 2, 1947. He grew up in Ozone Park, Queens and graduated from John Adams High School. He not only played football as a boy, but also coached football at Port Richmond High School in Staten Island. Professional, he started his lifelong career in education at Edwin Markham, IS 51, in Staten Island and then became an Administrator in the Long Branch School District in New Jersey. Though he became Superintendent for the Pemberton Borough School District, he ultimately returned as Principal to the Long Branch System citing his love of working more directly with children as his reason. In 2005 he retired and relocated to Jupiter, Florida. Andrew, being born and raised in Queens, was a huge NY Mets and NY Jets fan and carried on that tradition of watching and going to games with his children. He also loved his weekly card game with the boys; not even cancer would stop him from participating in that 40-year tradition. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Moffitt Cancer Center in Andrew’s name. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Cryptside service and entombment to follow in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Seagirt, New Jersey.
