I met Joe at New Utrecht High School in 1959…and we remained friends ever since. He went on to St. John’s University and I to Brooklyn College. We pursued similar studies, but I went into the military service in 1965 while he went on to the noble teaching profession. We reconnected after a few years as we formed our families. We went on trips together with our spouses to Villa Roma, on a Caribean cruise, and Bonita Springs, Florida. We gloried in our respective successes and downcast in our failures. We gave to each other and worried about each other. He was always ‘there’ to offer a helping hand. He was very generous. To sum it up, we shared a true friendship that lasted 63 years.
