Obituary of Joseph G. Albano

Joseph Albano 73 of Staten Island passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022 with his wife and daughter by his side. He was the beloved husband of Louise for 46 years; loving father of Joanne and her husband Anthony Aiosa and cherished Papa of Isabella and Anthony, who were the light of his life. Beloved brother of his sister Rita, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Lisa and loving Uncle to his nieces and nephews. Joseph was born to Mary and Paul Albano on August 28, 1949 in the Lower East Side of New York. It was there on the basketball courts of Lewis Street that he met Louise . He attended Our Lady of Sorrows for elementary school and made sure to stay in contact with his classmates for many years. He attended college at NJIT where he obtained a degree in engineering. Amongst his career achievements were coach of the LES Hawks football team, and a successful managerial career in the NYCDOT as Manhattan Borough Commissioner and Commissioner of Ferries. After retirement he became treasurer of the Shaun Hicks Men Golf Club. Joe's passion was organizing. Whether planning a party, coordinating golf tee times, or charity outings he approached the task with accuracy and professionalism. He helped create many friendships by bringing people together. He was a strong believer in family first. His devotion was to his family whom he had built lasting and meaningful memories with. Joe will be remembered as a kind-hearted, warm soul and great friend to all who knew him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, 1/3/2023, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday, 1/2/ 2023, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
