Obituary of Astrid L. Colangeli

Astrid L. Colangeli (nee Romer), 73, passed away at home peacefully, on March 16, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Pasquale (2004); loving mother of Heidi Colangeli and Vincent Colangeli and his wife, Jennifer; cherished grandmother of Sebastiano, Luca, and Vincenzo Colangeli; dear sibling of 5.

Astrid was born in 1944 in Oldenburg, Germany. She was raised there until the age of 14, when she emigrated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn. As a youngster she worked as a waitress in her older sister's candy shop in Brooklyn, where she eventually met her future husband. Eventually they married, and relocated to Staten Island in 1970. For many years she was self-employed as a bookkeeper for her family business, "Heidi's Milk n' Things", which was located in New Brighton. The entire family worked there together. She was known as "Mama Heidi" at work. As per her son, "She was the sweetest, toughest woman you could possibly meet."

Funeral service at the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, 3/22 at 8 pm. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday 3/21, and Thursday 3/22 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Arrangements include a private cremation.
