Obituary of Douglas J. Twohig

n Memoriam: Douglas Twohig (1961 - 2024) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Twohig, a beloved member of the Eltingville community. He departed this world on January 19, 2024, at the age of 62. Doug, as he was affectionately known, shared 30 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Carolyn. He leaves behind a lasting legacy as the loving father of Stephen and Victoria, and the dear brother of Patrick. His memory lives on in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. Born in Manhattan and raised in Staten Island, Doug dedicated over 24 years of his life as an MTA driver, serving the community with commitment and diligence. His work ethic was a testament to his character, earning him the respect and admiration of those he worked with and the passengers he saw each and every day. Beyond his professional life, Doug found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a special affinity for the beach, cherished moments spent by the pool, and delighted in the company of family and friends. His loyal companion, Colt, shared in many of these cherished moments, creating lasting memories. Even in his passing, Doug continued to demonstrate his generosity by giving the gift of life through organ donation. His selflessness has impacted the lives of others, providing hope and a chance for a new beginning. Doug is now reunited with his late parents, Leo and Pauline, in eternal peace. Doug's presence was a source of joy to those around him. His witty humor, infectious smile, and positive attitude touched the lives of many. The echoes of his laughter and his unforgettable rendition of "Sweet Caroline" will forever linger in our memories. In honoring the life of Douglas Twohig, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and celebrate the legacy of a man who truly lived with love, laughter, and warmth.
