Florence, I’ll never forget the day you invited me into your home for dinner. I was about four years old and immediately started a little rivalry with your granddaughter when I showed you how well I could read. You were excited to hear from me and always told me how intelligent I was. I loved going to your house, especially when I first tried your famous red sauce with pasta; my taste buds transcended all I knew about food as I called to my mother and told her to write it down: “Sauce!” As a child, I always wanted to keep you updated on my studies and share my “encyclopedia” of knowledge, and you were always willing to listen. Your gentle and welcoming soul was always a pleasure to be around. The day felt like a weekend when you came over. You treated me as if I were your blood grandson, and I’ll always remember and appreciate that. I’ll never forget how, as the matriarch of the family, you always brought everyone together. You’ve raised two impeccable children, from whom I’ve learned so much, helping to shape me into the man I am today. Your granddaughters are some of the most astute and compassionate women I know, and it is all thanks to your influence in their lives. I now know you are rejoicing with our Lord and Heavenly Father in joy we, as His children, cannot even comprehend. You deserve every bit of it for the impact you left on this world. Mom, we are going to miss you. We will miss beautiful smile, those beautiful eyes, as well as your laughter, but in our hearts you will live forever. You are in a better place with our Lord, Jesus Christ. I’m going to miss my third wheel like you used to say. I will miss when we went out and you were our special guest and our queen. You are leaving a beautiful legacy, two wonderful kids and three beautiful granddaughters. Thank you for being such a wonderful mother in law, a great mother, and the greatest grandma.
