Obituary of Linda Grace Powers

Linda Powers (Picioccio) passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2024, after a long and courageous journey with breast cancer.

She is survived by his husband of 44 years, Kenneth and her three children, Christina (Pablo) Thomas (Chelsea) and Veronica, her three grandchildren Adeline (6) Eliana (5) and Emmett (3). She is also survived by her mother Grace, siblings Michael (Lynn), Richard (Patricia), James (Gilda) and Edward (Christina), and her sister-in-law Maureen. Linda was a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews and a great aunt as well.

Linda was born on August 10, 1953, to Carmine and Grace Picioccio in Westerleigh, Staten Island. She attended St. Rita and Countess Moore High School. She graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She dedicated her career to home health care, working at VNA of Staten Island both in the field and in administration. She later moved on to VNS of Staten Island and finished her career as the clinical director.

Linda had a true nature of love and giving. That was evident in the way she lived her life. She was a whiz in the kitchen and will always be remembered for her knack for cooking and making it seem seamless. Her phrase was always “If you leave hungry, that’s your own fault.” She made time to continue to connect with friends, whether that be spending hours on the phone catching up, or get togethers.

Linda’s strong love for family was evident in her relationships with her brothers and in-laws. She always made time to connect and visit, almost never turning down an opportunity to do so. You always knew the “siblings” were together by the joy, laughter, and lots of animated talking that could be heard.

The greatest display of Linda’s nature of giving, family, and love was through her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. She held down the fort as a stay-at-home mom before returning to the workforce. She spent hours shuttling Christina and Veronica to dance classes, dress rehearsals and performances, or driving all over the island for Tom’s baseball games or wrestling matches - she never said no.

She always made sure that all birthdays and holidays were celebrated with the “Linda” touch. Sunday dinners were always special, a tradition she continued even as her children grew into adulthood. She would always call and say, “I feel like making a roast on Sunday, wanna come over?” She loved making memories and doing special activities such as the yearly trips to Wildwood or weekend getaways with Ken.

Her greatest joy was watching her family grow, welcoming Pablo and Chelsea into the family and then later becoming a grandma to her three grandkids. She showered them with love and affection (and lots of gifts) at every chance she could. Linda was seen by many as “superwoman”, someone who had a strong but quiet grace and determination that carried her through life, even in her final days. She never missed an opportunity to share her joy and love with anyone that knew her. Her legacy will live on in by all that knew her.

The visitation will be Thursday January 2nd from 2-4 and 6-9 at Matthew Funeral home. A Catholic funeral mass will be Friday January 3rd at 10:30am at Holy Family R.C.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Linda’s honor to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
