Katina was born and raised in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. She attended Holy Family grammar school. Due to her hearing impairment she had to change schools. She went on to attend Edward R. After her high school graduation she went on to attend CW Post College and completed her Bachelor's Degree at the College of Staten Island. She became an adjunct professor at the College of Staten Island teaching American Sign Language while also pursuing her Master's Degree in Education at Columbia University. Due to Katina's impairment she was dedicated to those who had the same difficulties she had. She served as the secretary for the Deaf Club of Staten Island for many years. It was her life's work to help those with hearing impairment; she fought everyday for them and made significant strides to better her community. Recently, Katina turned her attention towards the AMC Movie Theater in order to promote Open Caption movies for those that struggle with hearing impairment.
